I have one 6 week old buff Cochin (sweetie pants) who is having a butt issue. Is this a scabby oil gland or could it be vent gleet or did it just get all its feathers picked out? my friend heard “butt issue” & immediately thought prolapse but the vent seems healthy to me. It’s the part above it that doesn’t look good. Can I do anything to fix it or is it vet time?
I’m new to chickens. I have ten 6 week olds currently. This is the only one with an issue right now & I’ve only noticed it within the past week. they were in a huge watermelon bin in my house for their brooder & I moved them out to their very large coop/run 4 days ago. they’ve got a lot of space now & I keep it very clean. They eat grubbly little pecks that I supplement sparingly with black soldier fly grubs & greens from my garden & they get lots of fresh water with electrolytes. They came from McMurtry hatchery. I sprayed Vetericyn Plus on the irritation yesterday & applied a little cortisone cream. The chicken does not seem bothered by it at all & is behaving normally otherwise. Eating & drinking well & pooping normally. This one seems to be on the bottom of the pecking order though although I’ve never witnessed it actually being pecked. It’s more timid but does like to be held.
thanks for any assistance you can provide.
