I went to visit my Grandmother who lives in another state, and when I got there, I went to see her new 9 or 10 birds that she got from this guy because they were not "Show Quality". there were I believe 3 aracuanas (Sp?) 3 blue Minorcas, a Blue Wyandotte, a cochin and a Turken. All of them had Scaly Mites something AWFUL!! And grandma had never seen these scalies before she got these chickens. We got right to work, soaking, and smearing vaseline on their feet. Now I'm back home, and Grandma continues putting powder on the roosts. She can't soak and smother on her own, I was wondering, what else can she do to help prevent another outbreak of Scalies aside from just dust?

I've read of people using nonstick spray (such as Pam.) The mites need to be covered with something, as I understand it. Perhaps she could mamage this, if she did it at night?

she probably could. That's how we were catching them to wash it. I'd go in there and pull them off the roost carefully. They got to the point where they would see me coming and get this "oh shoot" look on their little faces...
