Yesterday afternoon MY EE hen Buttercup was alone in her small solo coop when we had a bad thunderstorm kick up a mini tornado that went right through my yard. It tossed the little coop with Buttercup still in it about 10 feet. When we went outside looking for all our birds they were all safe except for Buttercup. She was stuck inside the half crushed coop.
When we got her out it looked like she had been scalped, she had a nickel size piece of skin missing off the top of her head and some minor bleeding. Other then being shook up she seemed fairly calm and not in any major pain. After a few minutes the wound seemed to shrink a bit.
Luckily one of our neighbors is a doctor and he basically treated her. Put a topical antibodic on and in the wound and then used a fabric type band aid to close the wound up. He told us to keep her dry and indoors for a few days and to just let the bandage fall off on its own. Today she pretty much seemed fine other then the bandage across her head.
Anyone have any advice or other ideas or things we can do to help her get better.
Do we need to do anything else?
How long should we keep her indoors?
