Scaly leg mites and Nettex?

I had good results with Vaseline Grade/Type product. I used Crisco Shortening instead of Petroleum Jelly. I preferred an edible to a Crude oil product. I had them under control in short order.
Do you leave the Vaseline on the legs, or do you wash it off???.
Another thing I did do is,,,,,, I would clean out coop, and spray soak totally inside with laundry bleach. This was during summer BTW. I let the bleach dry. Then at end of day my hens would go back in.
Hope some of this may help you.:)

has anyone heard of nettex leg mite spray? My girls still have them. Been after them with vasoline and warm soapy water for about a year now. Looking for a trusty method.
I believe that stuff is basically snake oil.
I can't quite translate the ingredients listed here:
https://www.omlet.co.uk/shop/chicke...ly_leg/4365/nettex_scaly_leg_remover_-_250ml/

The vaseline should work if applied regularly....like daily for a week or two.
Don't bother with soapy water except after maybe an initial soak and scrub.
Just keep wiping the jelly up under the scales.
If infestation is severe the scales may never grow back properly.
Even mild cases can take many weeks to look 'normal' again.
Can you post pics of your birds legs?

Sadly the scale mites are a true bear to get rid of.

Not being able to see the actual critters makes it worse in my book.

Just how bad off are your birds? Have you seen any improvement?

Pictures would be great.

Can Ultra Care Mite and Lice for caged birds work for chickens? The active ingredient is pyrethrins.
I think the pyrethrin products are most effective for the larger external parasites like the mites and feather lice...... not the scale lice.

At least those products never helped reduce the scale mites on my birds.
