I'll do that the next time I treat each hen. Some folks use a toothbrush to try a d exfoliate those dead/raised scales. I don't know if that's part of your current regimen.
That's what I've been doing, once or twice a week with each chicken. How often are you treating the leg mites and with what exactly? It is going to take more time, but I would smother the scales with vaseline 1-2 times a week. It can take months for the new scales to grow in. You also might want to treat the coop with permethrin spray after removing all of the bedding, and put fresh bedding in the coop.
Good idea to do it sooner, than later. You need to rid the coop of the parasites, or they will continue to attack the birdsI didn't get the permethrin spray yet, but hopefully I get it before I clean the coop for winter.
I'd get it asap. Mites will hang around if not destroyed, then you'll have to start all over again. That's what I've been doing, once or twice a week with each chicken.

To add to this you can clean the chooks bedding too..You can do a Soap water scrub, & slather in petroleum Jelly, or vaseline to smother the mites.
