i have a hen that has scaly leg mites and its looks pretty bad.i have treated her with vasoline but have read old threads on the subject.someone said that tea tree oil is the best and works the fastest.true?also they said that scaly leg mites live their entire life on the legs of the chickens not on the roustes or nesting beds so its not neccessary to clean out the entire would need to do that for body mites.true?
    thanks for any info.

Absolutely false! How do you think they got on the legs to start with? They had to come from somewhere.

Clean out your house and paint the roost as follows:

1 gal burnt motor oil + 1 pint liquid Malathion (usually around 22%)

Once scaly leg mites are on the place they are very difficult to get rid of. You need to treat the other chickens immediately. saladin
