Well I should start out by saying, NEVER ever put a fly strip in your coop no matter how high it is a chicken will get at it to get the bugs. UGH, Poor chicken had the fly stip stuck to her wing. Luckily they are made to catch flies not chickens so it came off easy enough.

Today we shoveled sand into the secure run because cleaning it was a pain. It had a wire floor to keep anything from entering below. Sand is nice and about 3 inches deep. The chickens are terrified of their new run. They will not step on the sand. Is this normal or should I have avoided sand? I guess tomorrow we will see how the girls do.
 
Mine did the same with their first snow. A change to the ground where they step out of the coop is a cause for worry, it would seem. What I did was to lay some plywood scraps on the ground and they were OK with that. After a short while, and a few accidental steps, they were back to their usual habits, ranging around the run.
