if I look at my, what I think to be, pekin girl heads they have faint orangish stripes by their eyes. Could they be buff? or am I just looking too hard? Its kind of hard to see in the pics

Sometimes the yellow does have slight tone differences, but the ducklings still turn out all white. I am more interested in the bill colour - as it looks to be a different shade than I would have expected for Pekins- it may just be the angle- or the light... but e3specially the second photo- the bill looks to have almost a slight green tinge to it.

What ever breed or sex..they are gorgeous.

they are female and they have purplish bills. someone told me in my other thread that they were buff so I guess I will have to wait and see

I will have a look and see if I have a photo showing one particular little one I have here at the moment. She is a runner from my last hatch and now has the most beautiful buff coloured feathers growing. It might give you something for comparison at least.

Here she is as a week old duckling having a swim.

And just now...again wet as she has not long been out of the bath....

Hope this may help give you some idea what you may have, but it will only be a few weeks before the first feathers start to poke through and you will have a better idea.

Buffs, harlequins and some breeds of runner can have "smudging" around the eyes. If it was a runner though, you would notice a very slender body line and a more upright stance.

No matter what breed you have, you will spoil them rotten anyway

Please post more pics as they grow. It will be interesting to see what they turn out to be.
