Second time chicken parent

Hi...new here from New Mexico. As a youngster, I grew up with a mean rooster who we traded for a couple of hens. Now as an adult, chickens are back in my life.

I think a lot of nasty roosters have put the fear of Roos into lots of folks. As a result most forgo having roosters now. If you don't need fertile eggs or hatching or so, the hens will continue to lay just as many eggs (tho non fertile) without a rooster.
