I just got a shipment of 29 chicks 36 hours ago. Most are heavy breeds, except for 3 polish. The Polish are much smaller. Tonight, one of the Polish has a goopy eye that will not open. I'm guessing it was picked. I saw a couple of the other chicks who are already quite picky.

Would it be appropriate to house the polish separate from the others? At what age could I reintegrate them? I don't really have long term options at this point for separate housing. I could possibly manage it until butcher time, though.

Any treatment tips for the picked eye?

    Thanks,
    Amy

Well, today I am leaving the curtain to that room closed to try to eliminate natural light. If I can keep only the red light, maybe that will help.

What do you do when your new chicks are pecking? Do they stop after a few days?
