I would like to hatch out some pure breed chicks...how long do I keep chosen Roo and hen seperated from main flock before eggs will be fertilized by the chosen Roo?
Hens can remain fertile after a mating for quite a while. Many people keep the hen isolated for three weeks and call that good enough. There have been reports on this forum of eggs remaining fertile for as long as 3-1/2 weeks. So to be pretty sure, three weeks, To be extremely sure, four weeks.
So basically, if I switch them to their new "couple's" housing (when hubby is finished in a week or so), they should be good to go in spring with correctly fertilized eggs for the bator!!>??? AWESOME!!!! TY for your help Ridgerunner!
