So, a Sex-Link is a type of chicken where you can tell the gender at birth. The offspring usually inherit the genes from the opposite sex parent. Red (or black) cock x Barred hen = Black Sex-Link, then a Red cock x Silver factor hen = Red Sex-Link. I get that, but I see a lot of questions where people ask if their cross will be sex-linked. So, my question is, how can you tell if a cross is sex-linked (besides basing it off other crosses), and what are some other crosses that make a chicken sex-linked?

I recommend this thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/261208/sex-linked-information - a wealth of information and has a lot of specific examples of crosses that will or will not result in sex linked chicks as well as what the differentiating characteristic will be between those two sexes at hatch, including some great photos! It really is everything (and then some) someone could ever want to know about sex linking....especially as the thread is ever evolving with new information being added.

X2 on the link that Old Grey Mare has left with you. If you're wanting to try and breed some sex links yourself, I would recommend (from personal experience) keeping it simple (especially where hatchery birds are involved). I have very successfully bred Black Sex Links using hatchery grade RIRs and Barred Rocks, and Red Sex Links using hatchery grade RIRs and Silver Laced Wyandottes.
