We just hatched out our first chicks from our chickens. So excited, but I was wondering if they would be sex linked. Our rooster is a Plymouth Barred Rock & Hens are Golden Laced Wyndottes. We had a entire black chick w/ a goldish white spot on the top of it's head & a completely golden color chick. I dont have pictures because they just hatched this morning. My guess is the black one is a rooster & the golden one is a hen. Any suggestions? Thanks

Sorry, no sex linkage with those parents. A barred hen under a glw roo could be sex-linked, but not the other way round. You'll just have to wait and see!

A barred rooster should produce barred chicks -- both male and female. So, I'm not sure how you have a golden chick from him. Have there been any other roosters around?

THere havent been any other roosters around. Our chickens are in a chicken tractor and we have only 1 rooster & 6 hens. After moving them from the incubator I was able to get a picture[IMG]

I wonder if your barred rooster is actually a black sexlink rooster and not a barred rock? Black sexlink roos only carry 1 barred gene so can throw other coloured chicks.
In any case they wont be sexlinked.

Aha! They're usually half production red or RIR, aren't they? That would explain the golden chick (it looks like a production red...)
