So I need help with two chicks an EE and a silkie. I am guessing the EE is a roo but he/she is the most calm out of my group of chickens. The EE is about 17 weeks old and the silkie is about 16 weeks.

Your EE is a girl, don't know about your other one, though.

Your EE looks just like my EE hen. They could be sisters. As for your Silkie, I posted pics today of mine which I will say looks almost identical to yours and someone said roo. I will be interested in seeing what they say about your two birds. Funny how close my birds look to yours.

The EE is absolutely female. Silkies/Silkie mixes are notoriously difficult to gender ID, but I would say that it's female as well.

the thing that confuses me the most is that the the crown of my EE is quite red, I guess a redish pink.

Their combs do get pink and then red as they mature and get closer to egg laying age. The ee is a hen without a doubt, the silkie I cannot help you with though I would guess pullet as well.

She's just close to laying is why her comb is pinking up. It will get larger and redder. Search for easter egger cockerel and you'll see the the difference. She's a a classic easter egger pullet.

I don't even hazard a guess at those silkies [IMG]
