Hi All
It might be a bit too early to try this, but keen on peoples opinion. These photos are taken just a couple of days off 5 weeks.
The black one is markedly different, so is this the only hen? Or are there variations in the breed. These were a mixed batch of eggs from a breeder, all eggs were the blue/green.

I've done my best with the photos, but they are shifty little creatures.
Thanks!

Sorry to be asking on another members thread, but what does patenting have to do with anything?
The patterning is what gives the hint at gender. The Duckwing coloration is gender specific, males being black Breasted, while females have salmon.

I'm only talking about the silver chick with black breasts since it's the best example I have.

I think it is a little too early to know. Within a couple of weeks you should see growth and redness in the combs of the males. But I do think you are right that the black one will likely be a female.
Agreed. The patterns on the first 3 are quite cockerel-y.

Definitely too early to blow that whistle yet though. Update us in a few more weeks.

I suspect I know which breeder the eggs came from as I've bought hatching eggs from them myself and you do end up with quite a range of colours as they are either project pens or mixed colour pens.

Araucana are difficult to sex and I tend to rely on attitude to tell me early on, although the partridge are easy to sex because the chest starts to turn black on the cockerels and they get the redder feathers coming through on the wing (your partridge is a cockerel).

They should start sprouting saddle feathers around this age. You might have to look under the larger feathers at the base of the tail to see if you can spot any very skinny, pointed feathers hiding there. They may take another week or so to turn up, but you should spot them soon.

Your black one is looking like a girl to me. She looks like she'll be like my girl who doesn't have a crest. I actually think she's prettier than the crested ones.

Hi Everyone. So down to the last three. They are now ~11 weeks. I think the first two are pullets and the last a rooster. It's the tail and neck feathers that make me suspicious - the crest doesn't seem to obvious. I have a new home lined up for rooster, but was keen on your thoughts before I send him off.
