sexing barnevelders

    I have 2 17 week old barnevelders and im not sure what they are, i havnt posted a photo as i have no clue how to,thay have very small combs no long long tail feathers lovely yellow legs, and nice lacing and small wattles i know thats not much to go on but any clues?

    Well - sounds like they are pullets to me. By 17 weeks they should be showing the signs if they are roosters - unless Barnevelders are very different from other breeds.

    Oh yeah, you would know by that age. My Barnie boys have nice combs and red wattles by 12 weeks out of the Kelly Cratty line. My other bloodline hasn't matured enough yet for me to see what the boys are going to look like but give me a few more weeks.
    I say you have pullets if the combs and wattles are red.

    And something funny so far this year.......of all the Barnie eggs we have hatched so far only 2 are roos, everything else (about 50) were pullets. Bet it will change next year![​IMG]

    I find that as chicks if they have a very, very dark head those are your roos. You will need atleast 10 to see the difference.
