I went to the farm yesterday and they were selling 16 week olds blue marans that are not sexed, i am pretty new at this and not very good at sexing myself.
I fell in love with these and their colour, they were beautiful. So now i really want to go back and buy 2 pullets but would like some advice on how to hopefully choose pullets and not come home with roo's.
Can you experts tell me what to look for or what to avoid when choosing.
Well i went to the farm and they was already sexed, this is what i came home with

    Hi Marlene,

I've posted a comment on your white girls. You can use the same answer on these Marans. At 16 weeks the males should have quit some male feathering on their backs.
Also they're singlecombed. Larger developed combs can indicate males aswell.
Good luck making a choice [IMG]

At 16 weeks, males will have saddle feathers. Saddle feathers are pointy, shiny feathers that hang down in front of the tail on each side. Here is my rooster, showing his saddle feathers - they are easy to see in welsummers because of the copper coloring.
