I saw a man at the feed store today using a pencil hanging from a string as a divination tool of some sorts. I got a giggle from it, but failed to see any science to it.

Does anyone hear use similar methods to sex their chicks from a straight run, or is there another way to do this without calling in a professional?

Happy to hear back from you all!

I usually use a crystal and tarot cards, but the pencil might work. [IMG]

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan [IMG]

Some breeds are sexable right from the start. There are some other sexing methods, I am currently running a little experiment on wing feather sexing chicks - it will be a while before I see the results, though.
