Sexing chicks by Spur Bump?

I was reading that you can sex chicks at around 3 days old. The males will have a spur bump, and the females wont. Is this true, or an old wives tail?

I do wish us old wives didn't get the blame for stuff we had nothing to do with....

I don't know about with chicks, but I do know that hens get spurs and so have the bumps so I don't think I'd depend on that too much.

All chicks have a spur bump. Males will grow bigger and females typically don't (altho there are exceptions).

Okay. So all chicks will have the spur bump. I got worried when I felt my chicks legs. lol.
