Can turkey poults be sex at time of hatch. This is my first batch and I didn't really think they would hatch.

Quote:no. the only way to sex them until maturity is to feel inside the vent to the best of my knowledge.

(if that is not correct, please correct me all)

That is not correct, you can vent sex turkeys. no feeling inside the vent is needed. You can tell the sex but you need to know what to look for.

and depending on what breed I think the bourbons you can tell when they feather whos hen and jake.

I can't be of any other assistance other than what im picking up on here.

I'm not sure what I would be "looking for" there. I was wondering if it had anything to do with the "bumps" on their head.

Quote:I'm pretty sure as newly hatched chicks and even into the feathering out stage the hangy doodad looks the same on both sexes I may be wrong though but I had a trio of bronzes before and it took a bit to be able to tell who was who off of the face [IMG]

Some where out there on the internet is a guide to vent sexing turkeys. I can across it a couple of years ago but I haven't found it again. But usually around 9 weeks or male/ female characteristics will became apparent.
