Hello everybody, I know it could be too early to tell, but I was wondering if any of you could tell me the sex of my 4 and a half week old white Silkie Bantam chick. If it is too early to tell would any of you mind telling me any tips or signs of a pullet or cockerel. The bottom 2 pictures are he/she when she was about 4 days old. I hope the pictures do a good enough job!

Way too early for sexing a Silkie. They often don't show until almost full maturity at 5 to 6 months of age.

Good news is that there is currently no comb development, so there is no early indication of it being a cockerel. However see sentence above.

Ok. Is there any signs that we can keep an eye out for that indicates a pullet or cockerel? Thank you so much for responding as well!

Silkies can be very hard to sex. Sometimes you simply have to wait for a crow or an egg.

However *general* guidelines are as follows:

Male: Longer, lankier, taller body type. Mohawk shaped crest. Comb development. Wattle development.

Female: Rounder, fuller body type (tear drop shaped). Pompom shaped crest. No to very little comb development. No wattles.

But most of us simply have to wait it out.

Ok. Is there any signs or indications of it being a pullet or cockerel that you know of that I can keep my eye out for as he/she matures? Thank you for helping me!

Boys will get what is known as "streamers" or long feathers growing from the back of their crests. They will also have more comb formation than the females. Red on the comb early on can indicate cockerel as well.

Ok. By looking at the picture of his/her crest,
(the third picture down) can you see any indicators? Or is he/she still to young to develop streamer feathers. I know online it says the normally will show at about 7 weeks of age, but I just wanted to her you input. Thank you again!
