Hello everyone,

I have been told I might have some cockerel sounds coming from my young silkies. We have 3 chicks and they are about 2 months old, maybe more.

I think my frazzled silkie might be a roo but it is so gorgeous (aren’t they all) that I don’t want to let it go if I’m wrong. We can’t keep Roos in my area .

Any help/ideas welcome please!

The one (#1) for sure a Cockerel :barnie but really pretty! The other (#3) can't make out the comb but the head feathering looking spike = cockerel. Can't see the lighter colored one. Best thing to do is KEEP ALL until you're positive whose crowing, Silkies are harder to sex at a young age.

We live in New Zealand, I just bought some fertile eggs locally.
Oh man! I thought the brown fluffy might be a roo as well. I’ll get a pic of the white one. Hoping we have at least one hen. Hatched 3 of 6 eggs.

Here is white fluffy, my daughters favourite.

They are all from the same place. I bought them as silkies and from what I’ve read it just happens sometimes that they can turn out to be frizzle instead? The eggs all looked exactly the same when I got them.

That’s a bummer but I will just wait and see. Just have to see who crows I suppose! I saw the frizzle jumping on top of “mama hen” (the one who sat on the eggs and raised them).
