Ive heard some things and now im confused and wondering..... whats the deal with duck crosses/ mixes being unsterile or sexless or something? is this with all mix breeds or only certain crosses??? I have what i think is an ancona or some pekin cross- cant figure yet if hes a he or she.... could it be an it????
There are two kinds of ducks muscovies and all others (which are dirived from the mallard--all of them). When you mix a muscovie with a different (mallard dirived) breed you get a mule. A duck that will not produce fertile eggs (just like a donkey x horse mule).
The only thing sterile is a muscovy cross. Everything else is a he or a she and breedable. Just when a scovie is crossed with something else besides a pure scovie it will be sterile.
And the female hybrid will still lay, but her eggs will only be good for eating as they will be infertile.
Thanks! that makes one more reason why i'd rather not have any muscovies! Awwww! Muscovies are AWESOME ducks! Friendly and very personable plus........yummy on the table. (Pls no offense intended for those who don't eat duck) In fact, Scovy X's(mules) are puposely bred for the meat market in parts of the world.

Yep you can't beat a muscovy female great setters and mothers the drakes are Horndogs and should be given a place in your freezer as soon as they reach weight and are still tender. one drake will service a lot of ducks (or anything else he can catch)
