I was given a hen for Christmas and she is by herself in my yard, roaming free. Seems happy and have been laying eggs, one every 36 hours or so and I pick them. Now she won't leave the nest. Is she depressed, shall I get another hen?

[IMG] If she won't leave the nest, she has probably gone broody. Get some fertile egg for her, and in 21 days she will hatch and raise her own companions.

Chickens are flock animals. She might like it if she had a friend. I know that my girls never want to be away from each other. Sitting on the nest all the time sounds like a broody. Does she get mad when you try to touch her?

Shes probably broody! [IMG] is she growling or peckish?

I would get another hen because they are flock animals, you can find some on craigslist. And you can give her a few fertile eggs, there are places on this website you can buy them from. good luck!

I think she's going broody too! I would get her a buddy though if you don't want to hatch. Chickens are very social creatures!

Where are you located? I need to get rid of an INCREDIBLY sweet chicken. This is a much longer story that I won't go into unless it's a possibility for our chickens to be friends. :)
