    Hi

My shamo is ten months old now. He was sold as a hen but now looks like a cockerel. But he has never crowed and I've never seen him show interest in a hen. He has no signs of spurs. Is he a boy and if so, will he ever crow? Happy for him to keep quiet!

Certainly looks like a cockerel. Maybe just a late bloomer.

Definitely a cockerel. Is he your only boy? Mine seem to crow and mate less when they don't have any competition. Something else to consider, I'm pretty sure Shamo are a slow maturing breed, he just may not be ready to be a man yet. Or, it could be the time of the year (if its winter where you are). Not all cockerels/roosters are ready to go all the time.
    He's lovely though!

Thanks everyone. Any chance he will never crow?

Probably NOT....as in, he'll very likely crow at some point :)

Agreed he will. The O-shamo roo I had did not crow often at all, despite other roosters being around.

  9. I had a cockerel start crowing late I was starting to suspect he was a girl but he did eventually
