Shavings question.

    I bought this bag of wood shavings (Brand is Royal Wood Shavings)

    And it doesnt say what kind of wood they are from. Please tell me if I can use them in the coop. Thanks!

    It looks like they are the same pine shavings I buy, but not for sure. They should be fine....do they have a cedar aroma or pine aroma? Your cedar shavings which you want to use sparingly and only in well ventilated areas will have some red or cedar color to them. The pine will be all one color and will be a light off white color.     That's the brand I mostly use (for the horses as well as chickens). They're pine not cedar, and generally very good quality, and will be just fine for your chickens [​IMG]

    Usually if they are good enough for horses they are good enough for chickens!

    They are mixed softwoods [​IMG] I bought the same a while back at TSC, we had a friend who works there and I asked her at the time.

    i got a bag of horse pine shavings and looks like chicks are eating the small pieces, good or bad ?

    That is bad cover the shavings with paper towel till
    they start just eating the the feed about a week or two
