Mostly my DH wants to keep Sebastian as a pet, but I really need Dorian to be passing on the genes for the future birds I making.
We also want to let them both free range, so I was thinking if he would settle down and let dorain mate if he was desexed then I might look at getting it done.
If not then we will continue to discuss the matter, probably till we get a frizzle roo old enough to be fighting with them, and eat them both.
Really?? I am surprised. My pullet hatch was my best yet! Remind me please, how many did you start with?
Oh and on pullet eggs- the one that has pipped is only the 19th egg ever collected from 2 hens, so defintly from early in whichever pullets laying cycle.
Edit: Corrected pulley to pullet
The first 9 I ate checking for likelihood of good eggs.
The next 4 failed earlier in the hatching
Leaving eggs 14-18 looking good at lockdown and still in the incubator. I know cause I numbered the eggs until I set them , the starting dating them after I put the incubator on.
Had your pullets layed many eggs, been laying eggs for long before the oldest that you set in your hatch?
Ravyn can you enlighten me on how the Self Blue (Lavender) works? Are the self blue alleles parked in "the space" the black is supposed to be parked in, or does it work like albino and the black is still parked in it's spot, but the Self Blue is taking the lead and blocking the black?
How does it interact with white? Does it block that or is it expressed over the white? I have heard you can have a Lavender Laced bird so I wondered how it works with white. I would like to put a SLW over my Lav (Self Blue) Wyandotte and work into a Self Blue Laced Wyandotte. I know it would split the CO, Pg, and a few other genes, but I was hoping to get something fully laced by F4. What do you think?
Thank you for sharing that... really! My first husband always joked and said he would make someone a good wife one day! He was an awesome cook! And a good man.
Just 5 test eggs. Checking fertility really. All 5 were fertile. 2 quite pretty early. I have 16 RSL so there is a possibility that some of these eggs are the 2nd or 3rd egg the bird laid. Heck some of them could be the first. 4 of them were pretty small.
She only has FB. I wish I had her #. I will send one more message then wait till Friday morning to go to plan B . Did anyone else notice that more & more breeders are using FB instead of a website? I hate FB. I didn't even have an active account. But I made one, under my farm name, just to contact breeders. I always ask for a website but don't get much luck. The really established show breeders don't even sell hatching eggs. Only birds, occasionally. It's hard to come by SQ hatching eggs, at least that's my experience.
I had a boyfriend once that I called "SJ". He was Scott John. Does "J" stand for a middle name?
I'm still learning about lav/self-blues also (I like the lavender term for chickens, but my turkey is self-blue Slate to me, soo....) but I'd also like this answer. I thought I had it all figured out. But now my turkey is getting more varied colors in her feathers, light and dark. They haven't stayed the same shade, but she's still young. Might be different in chickens and turkeys too.
