My silkie/EE mix had only been laying maybe a week when I put one of her eggs under the pigeon. Is that normal or just good luck that it hatched? I saw the hen being mounted several times by my 1 yo silkie rooster

First eggs will hatch if they are fertile. The eggs may not be the ideal size, and hatch percentages may be lower, but first eggs will hatch

    [IMG]I'm so glad it hatched.

I know if you breed an aggressive rooster, his offspring will be aggressive. If you breed a skittish rooster or hen will their offspring be skittish?

I think a lot of that depends on the handler. I'm sure it can be hereditary, but you would think some of it could be controlled by environment

Mine were only laying for about a week/ week and a half so I'm guessing that's why some of them are not making it. I will have to try another batch.

So it looks like about 3-4 weeks after the first egg laid you should get consistent results based on results from 4 people 1 less than 2 weeks, 1 3-4 weeks and 2 5 weeks +
