btw congratulation
Uh, yea, see my "title"... candling addict here! lol
Hi everyone, was really sick the last few days and ended up 200 posts behind.Really glad I have my Brinsea 20 Advance since I basically left it for 3 days over the weekend and then ignored it again for the last 2 days. If I had an incubator I had to fuss with, or had to hand turn, the eggs wouldn't have any chance at all.![]()
Did a quick candling on day 15, basically pulled everything that wasn't fairly dark inside. I have 6 Orloffs and 4 Ameraucanas left and at this point, whatever will hatch, will hatch and maybe they won't. Not much I can do to reverse any USPS damage anyway, so why mess with them?
Kind of like in the hospital - if the test won't change the treatment - why do it? (Tell that to the residents that want to MRI the patient every day just to check progress!)
Eventually when I hatch my own eggs I'll be more comfortable messing with the eggs, but for me, leaving them alone seems best for this round of shipped eggs. YMMV
I hear you about reaching up overhead. I've already had one shoulder surgery. My answer to that dilemma is a taller ladder. If I can get up high enough that the work is at shoulder level, I'm good. Are you sure you are not my twin separated by birth? I'm guessing not so, unless our Mom had a particularly long pregnancy, as I'm guessing you're a "bit younger" than me. I was born in '56! My projects are limited by physical stamina and pain issues, otherwise... there'd be no end to them. Poor hubby, when we're strolling through Lowes, he'll look at me and say... "NO MORE PROJECTS!" What is a PA? And, btw, there are plenty of ways to keep a husband happy! And, yeah, a rooster is key to having your own hatching program! With the right roo, and your Dom gals, you could be hatching out some awesome sex-links. People will be beating a path to your door to get them! I have a gorgeous EE boy who makes some delightful BSL chicks with my SLW and Dom gals. I think my perfect flock might consist of EE or Ameraucanas and Doms. A rooster of each, and I'd be set up to provide EE or Ams, Doms, and BSL (walnut comb, green egg layers). All would sell very well in my area, and those 2 breeds are the perfect temperament match for each other.@lazy gardener - I have to agree with the weight of some of the tools. If you have to reach up far they feel too heavy but what's a girl to do? Wait for a man to help after asking him dozens of times or do it herself? And I don't want to hear it from any man about how he's get around to it. Eventually does not cut it. Nobody likes to wait on someone else's schedule. Man or woman.
I do have a bad habit of being a projectaholic. I can't sit still for long without doing something. Working a desk job has made it worse. "I've sat all day. This is boring. I KNOW! Let's go home and lay down some flooring" BRILLIANT!
"Oh and after that room is done let's skim-coat the whole master bedroom and put up some batten and board. Not sure where we would live during this but wouldn't it look so much better"![]()
PS. I told my husband I'm picking up a rooster this weekend. He is less than thrilled. Pfft. Whatever.I'll just buy him his toy later. I'm pretty sure his PA will drown out a rooster crow.![]()
