I just placed an order with Ideal Poultry with a ship date of 06/30/2010, which is a Wednesday. Should they arrive by that Friday? Ideal is located in Texas, and I'm in California, for reference. My post office is closed Saturdays, and that's the fourth of July weekend, meaning that if they don't arrive by Friday, they'll spend a three day weekend at the post office and then I'll have a box of dead chicks on Tuesday.

When I order from McMurray hatchery which is located in Iowa, they ship out on Saturdays and by Sunday morning the post office is calling me to come pick up my chicks. Now, I ordered some chicks Memorial Day weekend and Monday morning I got the call from the post office to come pick up my chicks. The lobby is closed on weekends and holidays but the main post office near you has people working in the back to unload and load the trucks as they come in and out.

That is unless you have a small contracted post office like the town I live in here in Southern California. But the main post office for my area (the hub post office as they call it) calls me. Let them know you are expecting chicks (even notify your post office tomorrow) and they will have your number to call you even if it is on the box.

I don't know how it is done with other hatcheries as McMurray is the only hatchery I deal with.
