should my silkies get a dust bath? and what is the purpose of a dust bath?

You could just provide them some access to something like play sand in a shallow bin. It is part of their grooming, and they really enjoy it, too.

all they need is some access to dirt, its hilarious to watch! It keeps bugs off them....lice and mite control, and they love it....! Even very young chicks will do it.

I have sand in my runs so they can dust bathe.

Mine love it when I put a bag of pine bedding in the winter and they all dust in it.
