It is raining and cold (44 degrees)...should I let my chickens out of the coop? Can they catch a cold in the cold, wet rain?

I open the door to the run when it's raining.

Most of them just stay inside, but I have a couple that really enjoy the rain...

But we don't often get down to 44 degrees either.....

I am not sure what to do. Open the door and let them decide, or keep them closed up until the rain stops I think sometime this afternoon?

Mine love the rain, they will go out and about then come back in and back out again. Leave the access to their coop open and let them decide. They will come back in if they are cold![IMG]

If they are adults, I'd open the door. If they're little guys, I'd keep em in.

They are about 28 weeks. Two of them are laying eggs.

I opened the gate from the pen to the yard yesterday yes it was raining and all my chickens ran out they had fun catching worms they did go in and out of the pen which is partially covered and the coop all day so I think they know when to come in and when to stay out. all mine seemed fine wet and looking like drowned rats with feathers but okay and they had plenty of worms to eat. I would let the out and see what happens.

All five of my girls go out in the rain no matter how cold it is. It doesn't seem to bother them at all.

We had lots of rain yesterday, the loved it. Ran in and out all day, scratchen & pullin up worms. Fun just to watch them act like chickens.
