I ordered chicks from a hatchery and well, they asked me if i wanted my chicks to be vaccinated aggainst mereks disease...So, my question is, should i have them vaccinated or not...I dont know exactly what the disease is but, if I do choose to do it, then wil it hurt the chicks while they are vaccinated, or wil it have side effects?
    Thank you!!!

You don't need to. Usually it is for those with known outbreaks in their area or a flock that has already been vaccinated. I've never done it.

Is there a high risk tho? That your poultry will get the mereks disease?

Nope, not here to my knowledge. Keeping a closed flock is best, meaning try not to bring in adults who may be carriers. Haven't had a problem in over a decade.

if you choose to vaccinate then you will need to have only vaccinated birds...I would call your county extension agent and ask what the advice is for your area.
