What do, those of you who show chickens, do to prepare your chicken (by grooming etc) for the show?
I think theres a few threads of this that I've personally posted on.
For my cochins I have to wash their butts and then blow dry them since they get "poopy butt" so easily with all their fuzz. I keep them on shavings so their feet feathers stay nice.
My other birds I wipe down with a damp cloth the night before (so that they're in their coop and wont go back outside and get dirty before the show the next morning) and also scrub their feet with an old toothbrush and soap to get them clean.
Depending on what color your birds are you may have to pluck some feathers (well you don't have to, but it really doesn't hurt the bird much) for example on our barred rocks we puck out the too dark feathers, of ir you have a black bird and theres a couple with some white you could do that too.
That's all you really need to do, there's a lot of other tricks like using hairspray but if your birds clean and healthy you really don't need to use any...
heres a thread that i had found that is VERY USEFULL!!!!! i highly recomend looking at it it helped me a lot.. make sure u read all the posts
