We have plenty of rooster for our three flocks and all new roos have upcoming dates to join the polar bear club, meetings to be held in the big chest freezer, BUT my wife has extended clemency to this little boy. She loves his colors and pointed out that he's actually striped- black, white, red, white, black. He's also very friendly and begs to be picked up and be given neck scratches.
Now my wife has to make a Sophie's Choice. Who goes in this guy's place? We cannot have extra roosters; it sets a bad precedent and, next thing you know, no one makes a guest appearance as dinner anymore.
Also shown is his "special" sister. She's about 3/4 the size of her hatch mates, seems a little stupid, and has a weird honking/croaking noise she makes instead of the usual chicken sounds, as if she was raised by geese. She's very friendly as well and loves neck scratches like her brother. She makes scritchy little noises when she's being scratched.
The other dozen or so from this hatch don't like this level of interaction.
