I have run out of pine shavings for my 4 week old pullets and have shredded some newspaper instead. Is this ok? They've eaten a few pieces, but it's soy ink, so hopefully won't poison them. Everything else is going well, and this is my first time raising chicks, so I don't want to mess things up now! Have I blown it, or can you use shredded newspaper?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I used to use shredded paper all the time when I had free access to it when I worked. I never had any trouble with it. Just make sure it doesn't have any plastic or staples in it.
