Shredded Packaging Paper For Bedding

Would this shredded/kinked packaging material be alright for bedding use? Any tests I can do to ensure there are no toxic issues? It seems to be construction paper quality.

That’s actually a really good idea although chickens are prone to eating colorful things so I’d worry that they’ll ingest it.

Along with JadeFarms I would worry about the chickens eating that bedding. I would also worry about that bedding wrapping around their feet and legs and causing troubles.

I never had issues w/ shredded paper wrapping around legs.

I don't think I've had shredded paper look quite like that, but really don't think you'll have any issues.

There's pictures of shred here in one of my coops from Dec 2018... I've mostly use it in compost. DLM

I could see it getting clumpy when wet. Maybe a mix of paper and shavings.

IMO, a mix of materials and textures is almost always superior to a single type of bedding used alone because it helps prevent packing and matting.
