This is the same chick I posted about in the 'what breed is this' forum. We just got her yesterday, not straight from the hatchery, but from someone who sells hatchery-bought chicks. In the other thread someone mentioned the chicks in the photos looked sick. This one has one droopy eyelid and her abdomen is bare of down, but with little pin feathers just beginning. At first I thought the chick seemed lethargic because of the travel yesterday, but she’s probably sick. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Listless and droopy can be a sign of any number of illnesses as well as a sign of stress. I would give it some electrolytes in the water to help boost it up if there aren't any other specific signs of a problem.

Any thoughts on why its abdomen might be bare? It looks like it’s uncomfortable for her to settle down on the bedding on bare skin.
