my eight week old orange cochin has been sneezing a bit lately, and he seems to release mucus or something every time he sneezes. he doesn’t seem to be showing any symptoms of anything serious, just sneezing. should i be getting worried? (we’ve been keeping our chickens inside at night since it tends to get cold where we live.) i accidentally made an article about this, oops.

If sneezing Id think a possible respiratory infection or illness but the discharge makes me think sour crop. Is he the only one with symptoms? Hows his crop feel? Does his breath smell? Whats the discharge look like? Also WHEN is he sneezing? Ive noticed mine will sneeze just to dislodge something in their nostrils; dirt, water, etc. Is the poop normal? Is he tired or losing weight?

Sneezing alone isn’t too concerning just yet, but could lead to other issues. Infectious Bronchitis can cause laying problems, but I’m not sure how that works if she isn’t laying she yet. Also many respiratory issues stay with the flock a long time or even forever. You might do a couple days of vitamins in the water for a little immunity boost.

right now he’s the only one that’s been like that, his crop seems pretty normal, i can’t smell anything in his breath, the discharge is clear and watery, he was sneezing last night, the poop has been normal from what i’ve seen, and he’s not tired nor losing weight.
