Sick Chicks?

    My chicks are sneezing, they are kept on newspaper and have a heat lamp that keeps them warm. It is very dusty where we live, can that be a reason? They are little sneezes and I don't know if the are sick or what.

    With a dusty environment, with it being just sneezing, I would just watch them carefully. Dust can definitely cause sneezing in chickens.

    What you don't want to see is swollen eyes, nasal drainage, rattling in the chest when they breathe, lethargic chickens, etc.

    The eyes are bright, no drainage, and they don't sound like they are having any trouble breathing.

    OK that sounds good.

    Here is some more information if you need it:
    If they are only a few days old you may want to get them off the newspaper and onto some shavings (you can cover the shavings with paper towels as that is better traction for their feet than newspaper).

    Newspaper is very slippery for brand new chicks and can be the cause of spraddle leg for brand new chicks:

    good and feed it to them just to be safe ...... [​IMG]
