I wasn’t sure if this belonged in the Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures section as this pertains to ducks but I have,
    two questions regarding my mandarins-

I just purchased some female mandarins off eggbid and all the birds seem relatively healthy just not as well feed as mine, but I have one female when I caught her to clip her wings I noticed one wont extend fully and there is a huge knot where the joint is so rather than extending out the wing kind of curves in. I am still learning all there is to know about these guys and have never encountered this.
My question is what is it or could cause it? Also I don’t know if it is related or not but the other three birds I bought are relatively clean when this one has dirty brown and damaged wing feathers. Could she have been injured while being caught or maybe previously injured and sold as healthy?

Also another unrelated health question regarding the birds I already have every once in a while I find poop that is very green like a lime. Could that be caused by eating too many greens? Just looking at the plants I don’t think they have eaten that much (they are feed Mazuri) but even when I had Indian Runners once every month or so for a few days they would have the same symptom and then it would go away. It has me a bit freaked out because while going through an avian vet book I came across pictures of lead infected birds and they had the same green poop, except with mine it just comes and goes and they don’t have any of the other side effects listed.

Any help BYC friends can give I would appreciate; I want to make sure I get everyone 100% healthy. The eggbid girls are currently in quarantine and will be until I can be sure the wing thing is nothing to worry about, but in the meantime its driving my boys across the yard crazy having to wait to meet them.[IMG]

It sounds like she has gotten hurt somehow. Does she extend it by herself at all?

If it’s an injury it’s an old one. It does not effect her in anyway I was just curios thought it might have been a deficiency in their diets when they were young. Actually the green poop from the other birds worries me more. I was hoping someone might know what it is.

The knot may be an old healed fracture or a dislocation that has stabilized on it's own, or a tumor, or joint infection- get it x-rayed if you want to know. I would contact the seller and ask about this- if they sold you an injured bird (even if it is old & healed injury and not a big problem), this is not ethical/nice. They should disclose prior to sale, they may have been hoping you would not notice. Asking for a partial refund would not be unreasonable.

I would try to find some duck people to ask about bright green poop. Maybe it is duck cecal poop...

Dark green feces are often a bird that is not eating well (bile).

Bright green feces might be dietary, or a bacterial infection/overgrowth, maybe parasites. Is it diarrhea? You could have a fecal checked for parasites to rule those out as a cause. 24 hr of restricting them from greens might help you know if you have a dietary cause.
