Sick/Injured Gosling

I witnessed what appeared to be two geese trying to drown a baby gosling. I'm not sure if it is injured or hurt. There are 6 adult geese and each has a gaggle. They were all honking and squawking when one of the geese would "jump" on the baby. I shooed them away, and they have now abandoned the baby. They are still close (the other side of an acre pond); but the little gosling is all alone. Should I try to get it and see if I can help it? I don't have any experience in caring for a gosling? Any advice?

What species are they? If it were me I’d probably go and bring the little one in, it doesn’t sound safe.
