Our Silkie is acting a little strange this morning. Well, first, she went into the coop much earlier than everyone else yesterday for the night. This morning she was sitting on the porch of the coop and when she got up to walk she almost looked dizzy maybe? Watching her a little more, she will take a few careful steps and then sit down. I put her near the water and she did drink some. She just came out of being broody a few days ago, not sure if that has anything to do with it but thought I'd mention it. She is about 18 months old.

She might be egg-bound.You will be able to feel the egg inside of her if she is. You can put Vasaline inside of her vent to help with lubrication. Try giving her sugar water for energy. Good luck!!!!!

How are things going with your silkie? Many times chicken become egg-bound from lack of calcium in their diet. Oyster shells help strenghthen their muscles so they can pass their eggs sucessfully. Plain yogurt can help as well. Olive or vegetable oil can be mixed in their food to lubricate their insides.I have recently had trouble with my hen Snowball who was egg-bound last night. She is doing just fine now. Good luck!!!!!! I'm 13 and have 9 bantams 4 buckeye hens and a Wyandot rooster.
