I would like to get a Silkie Bantam, but I live in Florida where it stays 95 deg for 5 months of the year. My RIR are always hot in the summer, but take refuge under the bushes (although all their feathers are puffed out and they still pant). I'm worried about having a silkie in this climate because of all the feathers. Has anyone raised silkies in warm climates? How do they do? any advice?
My silkies and showgirls seem to do just fine here in FL. I have lots of shade in my yard and I always have water available for them in several locations. The do not seem to get any 'hotter' than any of my other chickens. Lisa
