Silkie Chick Sunbathing or Playing Dead.

After I read into it, I realized they were just sunbathing... but its so crazy.


I was out working in the coop and I decided to go ahead and let my little bitty silkies roam with all the chickens for the first time. So they all walk around my chicken run, which is shaded by big trees around my yard. So they walk into a spot where there is a beam of sun shinning on the ground... then they all fall out. They look like dead chickens. They lay on there sides and sprawl there wings out and look dead. It was the strangest thing. It didnt seem like they were just napping in the sun because they all dropped at the same time. I took some pictures to show off this CRAZY occurance.

We had a chick that did this and it is quite sad, it was an indication of a lung problem. It only lived a few days. I hope yours are ok (not to be a wet blanket but just incase...it would seem weird that they are all doing it). Please let us know in a week if they are all still doing fine.

I managed to snap a shot of my two Sebright roos sunbathing this afternoon. It DOES look like a double homicide, though.

the first time I saw it, I thought it was a chicken wreck! But nope, just chicken sunbathers in action!
