About half of my white Silkie chicks hatch with black feet and legs and the other half have very light feet. Eventually they do turn dark. The ones with light feet also have light beaks, that also darken as they get older. My question is, is there a genetic advantage to the chicks that start out with very dark feet? Or since they all eventually end up looking the same does it not matter?

These hatched yesterday:

Does that mean that if the chicks are bred back to the parents there is the possibility of light skinned offspring that will stay light as adults?

With that much pink in the face and feet, I doubt that will turn black! I have one that had one pink toenail as a chick and still has it at 3 months old.
