I have 2 six day old Silkie chicks. They are eating and drinking well. The only thing that puzzles me is the head twitching when they are trying to sleep/being held & yawning after being held. The Silkies are the only ones behaving this way. Is it normal?

Do I have chicks with "tics"?

Our silkies did yawn as new chicks. I suspect the twitching could be related to a brand new nervous system that is learning to regulate.

Baby humans (something I do know a lot about) use yawning as a disengagement que. In other words, it's a way of saying "I've had enough, too much stimulation". Perhaps your chicks can only take limited handling?

The other thought I had is that they may be getting a little chilled when held and are trying to warm up by doing these things.

Silkies are great, enjoy yours!
