silkie chicks.

My 4 week old silkie chicks are eating small peices of hay. Should I be worried? I have them here in a cage I have built that's filled with pine shavings and hay until they are old enough to go outside. I've raised lots of chickens dont recall them ever eating the bedding material! I'm just worried it may clog up their little crops. I do have chick grit available to them.

I wouldn't worry too much. As long as the hay is not impacting their normal diet, it is probably fine. I also doubt they are actually eating the hay, many a poultry will nibble on non food items to figure out what they are. I would check their excretions for hay. If they actually are eating they hay, just shift to a all pine flake bedding.
