Hello. Hoping an experienced silkie breeder can offer help. I purchase 5 silkie chicks from someone who claims to be a show / reputable long time breeder. I asked for 2 blues, 2 buff, 1 white, 1 partridge. The partridge died immediately as the breeder said he was sleeping a lot and didn’t seem strong. The chicks are not quite 3 weeks and 4 are getting wing and small tail feathers. However, my white one feathers are coming in a gray color? Is this normal?? Also one of the buffs has black in the wings and the wings are tiny compared to the other 4. The blues are 1 light and one darker. so is my white really white and could the buff be a partridge? Also the 2 buffs have black dots on the head is this normal?
First photos are the “white silkie” then the dot head and next photos are buff silkie.

how many toes do they all have? That one looks like only 3 toes.
The hue of the color of chick fuzz can change with every molt until they're grown, so I think it's normal for the second set of feathers should be a different color than the baby fuzz

I see a blue, & a Buff.

The spot is a partial stripe, that Wheaten birds sometimes have.

The buff, is most likely split for partridge, like alot of silkies, & Brahmas are.

They all have 5 toes. Thank you I was under the impression when the first feathers came in it would be white. But mine are gray. I do understand chicks go through a lot of crazy changes until the reach POL

The first one is either blue or gray. The others appear to be partridge or possibly smutty buff. None of these are white.

Thanks all. I’m a wee concerned I got duped and that theses aren’t quality or from a breeder who breeds to standard and I got some person who bought chicks from tractor supply and decided he was going to sell all the babies he could from his flock. It was night when I was picking up so it was difficult to see white. The buffs don’t look buff and perhaps they will turn partridge in the end even though they don’t have chipmunk stripes anyway I paid $10 each and my best guess is these came off of a hatchery stock and not really a true breeder. This person happens to breed a lot of different polish chicks as well seem to be knowledgeable but I have my doubts.:(

Agree the first one looks to be blue. Definitely no whites there. The crests do not usually show up until about 2-3 weeks of age in my experience. These appear to be non vaulted, so do not seem to have crests when first hatched. 😊
