We have a hen brooding some eggs right now and some are silkie and some are standard size chicken eggs. I was wondering what the usual incubation length is for silkies. I know the banties are usually earlier than the larger birds. The silkie eggs are kind of between the ultra small and really large eggs. I was wondering if that means they will hatch closer to the standard eggs...

Hi!
21 days is the incubation period for bantams and standards.
Every now and then you'll come across some that will hatch routinely on Day 19 / 20, but I think that is the exception and not the norm.

Good luck with your eggs! When were they set?

Hey Dipsey. They were set ( I assume that means the day I put them under the hen?) on the 16 September so I reckon they should start hatching Saturday and Sunday. This is our first attempt and we have been blessed with a devoted little bantie cochin hen who is just about glued to the eggs she is so broody.

We are all really excited and I can't wait to see my 4 year old daughters face!
